TerraCycle Information: Family Housing Residents Can Join Ranks to Eliminate Waste

Family housing residents already participate in reducing waste in landfills by recycling paper, cardboard, and plastic and glass bottles and containers. Now they can take a step toward eliminating waste altogether by collecting printer cartridges.

Once thought of as non-recyclable, printer cartridges can now be collected and converted in to a wide range of products and materials. In partnership with TerraCycle, Balfour Beatty Communities will provide collection points for specific items from residents and send them to TerraCycle who will either upcycle or recycle the waste into new eco-friendly products. This eliminates waste in landfills and even reduces the need for new materials to be extracted from the planet.

Products that are made from upcycled or recycled materials include such things as park benches, bags and backpacks, gardening supplies, office supplies and even toys.

Making this program even better is that for every unit of waste collected and sent to TerraCycle, a donation will be made to Groton Animal Foundation.

All residents have to do to participate is to drop off their printer cartridges in the appropriate bin at any community center or the main office located at 100 Tern Road. Balfour Beatty and TerraCycle will take care of the rest.

For more information about the program you can visit the TerraCycle website at www.terracycle.net or contact Balfour Beatty Communities at 860.446.5913.

Winter Reminders

Winter Reminders:

• All Window Air Conditioners need to be removed and stored for the winter.

• During Snow Storms there is NO On-street Parking! This allows for complete snow removal from roads and keeps your vehicles from being buried in the snow.

• Please disconnect your hoses from the outside spigot – the pipe can freeze and burst into your home.

• Make the Management Office is aware if you plan on being away during the holidays or winter season so that the heat can be regulated in your home with a “Winter Watchman” devise.

• DO NOT set your thermostat below 60 degrees!

• When the temperature is below freezing, keep your faucets dripping and cabinet doors open to keep pipes from freezing.
